Acropolis Goes Dark for Earth Hour (video)

March 30, 2019

Earth Hour Campaign for WWF Greece. The Earth Hour campaign raises awareness about the impacts of climate change. The world's most famous landmarks are plunged into darkness for one hour every year, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm, in each time zone around the planet. The iconic Acropolis is one of them. Being at the Parthenon at night for Earth Hour was once again, a one-of-a-kind experience.

About Earth Hour

Earth Hour began as a symbolic lights out event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. It was first held Greece in 2009 with more than 500 municipalities and towns switching off the lights. The Greek capital of Athens, and the cities of Thessaloniki, Patras, Volos, Herakleion, Ioannina and Alexandroupoli took part. Even more landmarks and iconic buildings than ever showed their support in 2011, from the Parthenon at the Acropolis, The Greek Parliament Building, the White Tower and the bridge of Rio-Atnirio. WWF Greece is responsible for coordinating Earth Hour in Greece.
