"New Omonoia Square" Construction Timelapse Receives Remarkable Artwork at Siena Awards 2021
SIENA, TUSCANY, ITALY, October 21, 2021 /Newswire/ -- Greek Filmmaker and Photographer Alexandros Maragos has received Remarkable Artwork at the acclaimed Siena International Photo Awards in the Short Documentary Film Category for the construction timelapse film The New Omonoia Square. Commissioned by the City of Athens, the film explores downtown Athens while documenting the construction of the new fountain in Omonoia Square. The contest received thousands of images submitted by photographers from 163 countries with winners to be displayed in Siena, Italy starting on October 23, 2021 as part of the Siena Awards Festival of visual arts.
Production
The Omonoia Film was shot exclusively with the use of precision timelapse photography and hyperlapse cinematography with no fixed-position cameras or drones. Shooting of the main timelapse scene which documents the construction of the fountain was done by revisiting multiple times the same spot and framing the same shot each time for almost 5 months. The film was made out of 3,000 RAW images in 6,7K resolution. It was shot on the Canon 5D Mark IV with Canon L-Series Lenses and finished for web distribution at 4K, 3840x1920, 2:1 aspect ratio.
